The Seminar has as
overarching theme Workforce Development and Higher
Education.
| |
There are three sub-themes:
1. What are the qualities of graduates that ought to be produced in the United States and
Europe? |
Sub-questions:
To compete in a global economy, workers and employers need to keep abreast of rapid advances in
science, engineering, and technology. What role should higher education take in ensuring adequate preparation of new workers in these
areas? Is higher education producing graduates with the qualities needed in work in the 21st
Century? Can we anticipate the requirements of the next 5-10 years? |
2. How should higher education develop the 'employability' of
graduates?
Sub-questions:
What contribution should education institutions be making in developing a
range of graduate attributes (other than subject knowledge) that will enhance
the employability of graduates? What processes do institutions have, or need to
put in place to aid student's development? What kind of relationships do
institutions have or should have, with employers?
| 3. What impact will the internationalisation of higher education have on
employability? |
Sub-questions:
Will this lead to more or less emphasis on employability? Will it lead to more or less employer
collaboration? |
