Linking Society and Universities: New Missions for Universities
EAIR Forum Valencia 2010, Valencia, Spain, 1-4 September 2010
Paper proposals
The Programme Committee invites you to submit your paper proposal for the 32nd Annual EAIR Forum Valencia 2010. You are welcome to send in more than one proposal. However, only 1 proposal per main author will be accepted.
Posters
Posters are well suited to give overviews of facts and figures and the conclusions drawn from the research. A poster is meant to grab the viewer's attention and quickly communicate its ideas and relevance.
Absolute deadlines
- Deadline for the submission of your Proposal is Monday 25 January 2010 (Notification of acceptance by e-mail: no later than 30 April 2010)
- Deadline for the submission of a Poster is Saturday 1 May 2010
- Deadline for the submission of an Accepted Paper to be included on the website is Thursday 15 July 2010. For those who want to be included in the competition for the EAIR Best Paper Award, this deadline is Thursday 1 July 2010
Registration fee
Speakers at the Forum will be expected to pay the Forum registration fee to participate in the Forum. The registration fee for the EAIR Forum in Valencia is not yet available, but may be up to 10% more than the registration fee in Vilnius 2009, which was € 640. EAIR members will receive a reduction of approximately € 165. Registrations received after the early closing date will be charged an additional € 65 (approximately). Final details on registration and fees will be contained in the Preliminary Programme which will be e-mailed in April/May 2010. The closing date for early bird registrations will be Wednesday 30 June 2010.
Young Forum speakers
To increase the participation of young colleagues at EAIR activities, EAIR is offering the opportunity for young (age 35 or younger at the time of the Forum) professionals and academics working in universities, polytechnics and other higher education institutions - either in university administration, or in academic departments with particular research interests in management issues - to participate in the EAIR Forum at a reduced fee of 50%. They need to have a proposal accepted for the Forum in Valencia and satisfy specific conditions.
... and EAIR Best Paper Award
Moreover, for our colleagues 'age 35 or younger', EAIR offers a competition for the EAIR Best Paper Award. The prize is a free subscription from the Routledge education list for one year.
Please take notice of the criteria.
Available Timeslots
You will normally have a timeslot of 20 minutes to present the ideas set out in your paper plus 10 minutes for colleagues to comment on the ideas presented. You are also encouraged to propose other formats such as round-table or forum discussions, a poster presentation, a best practice session, etc.
Abstract and Outline
You are asked to submit an abstract, as well as a more detailed outline. If your proposal is accepted, your abstract will be included in both the Preliminary and Final Programme of the Forum and published on the Forum website. The outline will also be included (for participants only) on the this website in order to allow early reading and preparation for the Forum.
The forum language is English. We request that you use the 'British English' spelling.
Title
The title of your paper should be no longer than 12 words and should accurately reflect what is being proposed.
Abstract
You are requested to submit an abstract which should not exceed 100 words. Anything in excess of 100 words will not be included in your abstract. The abstract should clearly indicate the core idea of your paper and highlight what your presentation will be about.
Outline
The outline should not exceed 1 000 words (not more than three A4 pages in total). It should include:
- An introduction in which a description of the problem or issue the paper addresses is set out
- A paragraph in which the background of the problem or issue is outlined (including the relevant literature)
- A description on how you approached the problem or issue
- The results, including how the findings relate to previous work
- The implications or relevance of your work for others (including whether its results can be generalised)
- A final paragraph in which you indicate your conclusions
- A reference to how the proposal fits the relevant Track theme
Categories and Keywords
In order to help participants to select the presentations which will be of greatest interest to them, we want you to indicate the character of your paper by ticking one or more of the following categories on your proposal submission form: Academic (theoretical or discursive), Academic (research-based), Case study of practice, Policy oriented, or Other. Moreover we ask you to provide between 1-5 keywords that signal to participants the content of your paper. You will find a list of keywords in the proposal form.
Publication of Presentations on the Forum website
EAIR publishes all presentations on this website, which is accessible for all participants attending the EAIR Forum. Presenters will be invited to write a paper of 3 000-5 000 words giving valuable background information on the presentation and thus eliminating the need for handouts. The paper should be written on the basis of the accepted proposal.
The absolute deadline for submission of these papers to the EAIR Secretariat is Thursday 15 July 2010. For those who want to be included in the competition for the EAIR Best Paper Award, this deadline is Thursday 1 July 2010. More information will be included in the 'notification of acceptance'.
We kindly request you to follow the instructions carefully. Proposals that do not conform to these guidelines are unlikely to be accepted by the Programme Committee. If in doubt, contact the EAIR Secretariat before submitting your proposal.
