Reaching out to Society: The way Universities interact with Society
Track chair
Dr Patrick Cashell emeritus University of Limerick Ireland
Track description
The 21st century university faces the challenges to continuously be adaptive and responsive to change. Universities obviously live up to many of the expectations by e.g. sharing its knowledge with society and industry and by contribution to lifelong learning. Some of the new ways to reach out to society possibly generate tensions, for instance how to combine old and new activities? And, how to serve different masters - ranging from governments to business to the diverse student body?
This track will, amongst others, explore questions such as:
- Which organisational models are used to generate useful knowledge?
- Which organisational strategies for reaching out to society seem to be effective?
- Which processes and indicators measuring societal interaction are relevant?
- What can we learn from experiences across the globe?
